Your message does not include any specific error information so it is
difficult to give you precise instructions.

First of all, you posted your question to a newsgroup that deals with
Windows XP issues and I have never seen anything to do with "active
desktop" on a computer running Windows XP. That "feature" was found
on computers running Windows 98 and Windows Me so you might want to
post your question again, with more specific information, to one of
the newsgroups that deals with your actual Windows version. That way
you will have a better chance of getting an informed, accurate
response.

For a starting point you might want to ensure that your computer is
free from viruses/spyware etc. See MVP Malke's Malware Removal site:

You might also find some further advice and assistance on MVP Patty
MacDuffie's site, which is focused on new and inexperienced computer
users: http://computerhaven.info/

Good luck

XP actually does have Active Desktop. The ability to display HTML pages as
your background is done with Active Desktop - it's just a lot more stable
than that in Windows ME.

The functionality provided by Active Desktop is available in Windows
XP, that is true. But the term itself, "active desktop", is not used
anywhere in conjunction with Windows XP that I am aware and therefore
any error messages that contain the term "active desktop" are most
likely not coming from Windows XP.
