standby not an option in shut down menu
cybermaksim 7/6/2007 1:12:07 AM
Hello. I recently reinstalled Windows XP Pro SP2, and I have updated my video
card (BFG GeForce 7950GT) to the latest drivers. When I go to the "Shut
Down..." option in the Start menu, there is no option for "stand by" as there
used to be. Can anyone please let me know how to get this option back?

Thank you,
Mike

Did you reinstall the Motherboard Chipset Drivers?

No. I actually just got a new motherboard and rebuilt my system. It is an
ASUS Crosshair. It's new, so I thought the drivers should be up to date.
However, there is a utility for updating the BIOS (and possibly the chipset
drivers too) called ASUS update. I will try that first.

I have reinstalled the latest chipset drivers and updated the BIOS to the
most recent version. I still don't see the stand by option in the list.

Did you check power options in control panel?

Have you enabled the power features?

Do you have the Advanced Power Management enabled in the BIOS?

I'm not quite sure what you mean by enabling the power features. Can you
please be more specific or give some instructions? I think I have everything
enabled that should be. I just don't see stand by as an option in the shut
down menu. I don't know what else to check. My motherboard and video card
have the most current drivers installed. Everything is a fresh install on my
system. I can only think that maybe one of the ASUS utilities might be
interfering with the windows shut down options, or that some setting in the
BIOS needs to be changed.

Thanks for helping me.
Mike
