Shortcuts to web sites dont open with page active.
"Keven J. Nielsen" <keven[ at ]5smalldogs.com> 6/29/2007 5:06:04 AM
I have a shortcut to Google in IE6. When I double click on it, a new
window opens with the start page of google. The problem is that the window
is not active and I have to click on it first to use it. I would like for
the Google home page to load and for the cursor to be waiting for input
without having to click on the new window.

Does anyone know how to make the new window start up as active?

Thank You

Kevin

Hi,
Is this a regular Favorite or an Internet Shortcut on the desktop or
elsewhere?

Does it open Google "Classic Home" or "iGoogle?" Have you added a theme or
stuff to your iGoogle page?

XP SP2? (May be relevant.)

Do other webpages open with focus on top of other windows?

Hope this helps,
Don

Hi Don, thanks for responding. I created the shortcut by going to
google.com, I then dragged the little "e" next to the web address to the
desktop and it created a shortcut to google. Its just http://www.google.com
I do have SP2. My shortcut to my credit union starts up properly with the
focus on the page I just opened. Just now, I started my shortcut to google
and now the page is active. I dont know why, it has been opening as
inactive for a long time. My next question would be "do you have any idea
why it would open with the focus on the new window sometimes and sometimes
not?"

Thank You for your time

Keven

Hi,
Pure speculation ;-)
I was thinking that perhaps some "stuff" (content) on your personalized
iGoogle page was seen as ActiveX and IE6 was requiring you to click on the
page to activate that ActiveX, even if you weren't seeing a "click to
activate" message.

More:
912945- Internet Explorer ActiveX update:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/912945/en-us

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eolas

If this happened with pages other than Google, I would wonder if another
browser add-on was involved and would disable other add-ons one at a time to
see if the problem disappeared.

Hi Don, That is interesting about having to click to activate an activex.
My credit union makes me click on the new page before I can enter my
password. Do you think that is part of the same problem or is it normal.
If my google shortcut is wanting me to activate an activex then do you know
of a way fix that?

Thank you for your time.

Keven
