Sounds like this may be related to Yahoo chat or messenger (?)
Try this when the phone icon is present... Start> Run> msinfo32> Software environment> Running Tasks. In the right pane, Ctrl+a (select all) then Ctrl+c (copy) Paste that into a reply, see if someone spots a task that might be causing this.
