After restoring my computer, I am able to use Outlook to send and receive emails okay. But Outlook Express seems to be timing out or hanging there and I can't get the emails. I have Panda virus protection software on the computer and even tried removing that, but it didn't work. I would prefer to use Outlook Express instead of Outlook. Anybody know how?

Hi, do you have the same email configured for both Email Clients, both Outlook and Outlook Express? That could be the problem. Also check your fire wall settings.. It could be blocking it.. I don't know, but you are more likely to get the help you need if you ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup, than here in a Windows XP one.
Out of curiosity, why do you prefer OE to Outlook?

In internet options under the program tab make sure Outlook Express is your email program. (Default has to be Outlook Express). "Robert" <projecttodayREMOVE[ at ]yahoo.com> wrote in message news:Xns994646A0B83A5projecttoday[ at ]69.28.186.121...

Outlook Express is part of Windows XP, therefore question is very valid at this newsgroup. "Ken Blake, MVP" <kblake[ at ]this.is.am.invalid.domain> wrote in message news:vjua635p393p519fl28m71kh53697abiqi[ at ]4ax.com...

It's not a matter of validity; it's a matter of getting the OP an accurate and quick answer to his/her question. The Outlook Express experts spend their time in the Outlook Express newsgroups and possibly not in windowsxp.basics; the Outlook experts spend their time in the Outlook newsgroups and possibly not in windowsxp.basics.
Therefore the suggestion is made to the OP that they might find the answer where they will find the experts. Read through Mr. Blake's post again and you will see that he is not chasing the OP away from windowsxp.basics - and neither am I (although I don't know the answer since neither OE nor Outlook are my areas of expertise) - but only pointing him/her to another and better resource for help.

Technically, no. Outlook express is part of Internet Explorer......

Correct. However, validity is not the issue, nor did I suggest otherwise. The issue is where Robert is most likely to get the help he needs. Outlook Express experts tend to hang out in the Outlook Express newsgroup, and it's a better place for him to ask his question. He *may* get the right answer here; he probably will get the right answer there.
Almost any time you can ask a question in a more specialized newsgroup, you are better off doing so.

I'm using the same email account in both cases. The guy who reinstalled XP on my computer appears to have removed or disabled the Windows firewall as I can't find it. There is a firewall in Panda. "Rainy" <sweetwrapz[ at ]mchsi.com> wrote in news:#bXRBL2pHHA.3888[ at ]TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl:

I would be sure to have two different ones, or decide which one you would rather use.. it can cause a conflict.. I would suggest you get a firewall off the net.. Sygate in my opinion is great.. now Symantec bought it out and so now it's not free.. but you can go go www.oldversions.com and get the one that is free.. I believe it's 5.6 I would not turn the windows firewall back on. it's about useless! I believe the windows firewall allows traffice from the net to your computer and stops programs and trojans etc from accessing the net. You will need a firewall which can stop the traffic going both ways.. Please let me know if this helped at all.. thanks Rainy
