vanishing iocns in url bar
myron 6/4/2007 4:58:01 PM
I recently upgraded from ME to XP. When using ME, i found that often, if a
web address had an icon attached to its url that would show up in the url
bar, that after a while it would vanish and become replaced with a generic
windows icon. after i upgraded to XP, these bicons all returned, but have
again recently just started to disappear. i'm wondering what to do to
prevent this from happening, and i'm wondering if this is indicative of some
other issue with my pc that i should be concerned about. otherwise, it's
just a nuisance - i prefer to navigate through my favorites bars and so on by
quickly locating the image. also, i have a blog for which i have a unique
icon, but rather not see it disappear too!

when i was running ME i was using IE6. now that i'm using XP, i've upgraded
tp IE7. sometimes the icons will return if i re-favorite a site. sometimes
they will reappear on their own, but not very often.

Hi,
Try clearing the Temporary Internet Files and History from Internet Options>
General> Browsing History> Delete> (next screen) etc. If the Favicon doesn't
appear after a few visits to the site (give it a day or so) recreate the
Favorite.

Make sure that a security/privacy/cleanup program isn't (or you aren't)
regularly clearing the History or Temporary Internet Files.

I believe that's something to do with 'favicon' - but its something the web
designer/developer adds to their site. Nothing to do with browsers.
