Windows Media Connect SDK?
"casey chesnut" <casey[ at ]MORE_SPAM_PLEASEbrains-N-brawn.com> 5/23/2007 4:38:58 PM
can i use Windows Media Connect 2.0 to create my own UPnP AV MediaServer,
which runs outside of WMP11?
specifically, i'd like to create an app that is similar to TVersity or Orb
for transcoding videos to the XBox 360.

Thanks,
casey

The WMC 2.0 was rolled out as a standalone application prior to WMP11 (it
was alpha or beta at the time). It works as a standalone UPnP media
server. Installing WMP11 I believe removes WMC and uses the WMC build
built into WMP, which is basically exactly the same thing anyway. I
haven't tested the transcoding abilities and I'm not even sure there is
any. WMC did decode the audio to PCM if the receiving side didn't support
the format, not sure if the same was true for audio. There might be more
info here:

Note that you can no longer download WMC2 (or WMC1 for that matter),
it was inexplicably removed from the download server once WMP11 was
released. Any source for that installer would be a 3rd party site with
the associated security risks.

my follow-up question would be, is there an SDK for the WMC part of WMP11,
which would allow me to create my own app for transcoding to the XBox 360?

i'm assuming the answer is 'no', and that i'll have to look into using
Intel's UPnP AV implementation to create my own MediaServer.

Thanks,
