Newbie: Video DSP beginner guidance
"divya_rathore_[ at ]gmail.com" <divyarathore[ at ]gmail.com> 4/20/2007 7:19:40 PM
I want to implement Video DSP for WMP 9 onwards (am hoping that things
won't change too drastically in further version as far as handling the
frame bitmap is concerned).

Basically, I would like to implement simple DSP algorithms like
blurring, denoising etc on each video frame while running from within
Windows Media Player using WMP Plugins.

How should I start?

Some sample programs are available to begin straighway? Particularly
one that can give me the pointer to the frame data (R,G,B
components).

regards,
divya

The WindowsMediaPlayer SDK contains a wizard to create WMP
plugins and DSP plugins are documented in the SDK. Notice
that a DSP plugin is a DMO and generic DMOs are documented,
with samples, in the DirectShow SDK, which is part of the
Platform/Windows SDK.

DMOs work with WMP7+ on XP. They might not work with WMP11
on Vista and you may need to write an MFT for it (but I
don't know for sure - MediaFoundation is documented in the
latest Windows SDK for Vista).

Thanks Alessandro!
I will look further into the A-B-C of DMO, MFT etc and revert back :)
I understand that it would be a fine balance between signal processing
and industrial terminologies/practices but worth a try, am sure.

Even MFTs don't work on Vista. At least my video decoder MFT doesn't and
MSFT support people suggest it won't at the moment.
