Well, like the topic says, is it possible? Id like to change the Fraunhofer one with a more lightweight one, using a DirectShow filter which connects to the BASS plugin (www.un4seen.com)
But ive google'd, and fraunhofer is the ONLY ACM decoder avaliable... Any workarounds?

Yes you can change the MP3 codec, but only to certified to be WMP compliant codecs. The one that ships, along with codecs you can purchase that are listed on http://www.wmplugins.com with direct links below are Windows Media Player compliant.
Cyberlink MP3: http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemID=232 Intervideo MP3: http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemID=149 Sonic MP3: http://www.wmplugins.com/ItemDetail.aspx?ItemID=660
Anything else is not certified to be compliant at this time, so no, using the codec package you indicated in your post won't work.
Sorry to disappoint!

My apologies for misunderstanding your question. I read "decoder" as "codec" thinking you wanted to change the encoder.
The answer to your question though, is still no, you cannot change the playback codec.
Sorry!

I dont understand why it wont play mp3s.. I have windows visita on my laptop and i never had this problem with the media player. Can you help me?

Where did you get these MP3s from? If you got them "free" from a file-sharing utility, they were probably trojans meant to wreck your computer. Did you get them from a legitimate site? Where are they from?
