I have a unique problem that even techs (no doubt in India) can't even fix. I have created several files using the Windows Movie Maker program. I have published these files to my computer (in addition to a DVD) for easy playback. For over a month these files played fine on my WMP. One day, about a month ago, I tried to play these files and although they loaded, I only got audio. The video screen was black. When I play these in Quick Play, I get video but it has distorted color. Same goes when I try to put it in Movie Maker. (This doesn't happen with any other video files, just the ones I published to my computer as .WMVs.) It can't be the files themselves though.
As an experiment I tried to make a DVD with Windows DVD maker. That is when i noticed that even the menus on the DVD maker had a distorted color. Nevertheless, I made a DVD with one good file, and one of the files that looks discolored. When I watched the published DVD everything was fine. The menu and both movie files playe perfectly even though in the preview it looked discolored. So basically, this is just a matter of playback in Windows Movie Maker and Windows Media Player. Still, it's a big deal to me because if i can't see what I am editing or just simply trying to enjoy on my computer without using a DVD, I simply can't!
I have tried uninstalling all past updates. This didn't work. The Indian guy tried uploading new codecs. didn't work.
Any ideas? Please!
thanks, matt
