Vista and Media DVDs - Useless
ogman 6/7/2007 2:53:16 PM
Unless somerone can explain this, I have to switch back to XP, because this
is just nuts. I burned a dvd with family photos and movie clips. On my 4 year
old XP machine, Windows reads the dvd in about a minute and displays the
pictures in seconds. On my brand new Vista machine (5.5 Vista performance
rating) Windows took over 5 minutes to read the dvd and an another minute or
two to display the first picture. Additionally, as I scroll through the
folder it can't keep up with the thumbnails.

So let me get this straight, for media XP is the faster operating system,
even on old hardware? I would never believe this was true if I were not
seeing it.

It is also possible that your older XP machine which was used to burn the
DVD
is having an easier time reading the DVD that it burnt in the first place.

In your new Vista PC with a different DVD it maybe struggling and having to
re-read portions of the DVD to get it to read error free.

In which case this is not an OS problem but a potential DVD drive problem.
It can be a common issue that burnt discs dont always read as well on
other machines as they should...

How does your Vista machine perform when playing a commercialy
pressed DVD?

I'm sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough. The Vista machine is the one that I
burned the DVD on.
