Problems with MP3 playback in Windows Media Centre
Richard Willis 4/30/2007 8:42:03 PM
Hello All,

Can you help?

Every time i play an MP3 with windows media centre the sound glitches as the
track comes to an end. If you have the visualisation running it seems to
coincide with the track details appearing on screen.

Can you help? Its driving me nuts!

Thanks.

What sound card do you have? Is there a driver update available?
What machine type/brand is this?

If you right-click on the Speaker icon in the system tray, select Playback
Devices, right-click Speakers in that new dialog, go to Properties, then go
to Enhancements - choose "Disable All Enhancements" -- does that fix you up?

Have you fixed this problem yet? I have the same issue and it drive me nuts,
my computer always seems to hic-up during the last 15 secondes of the song.
I have a Dell XPS 400, also with Sigma Tel Audio, but I have to say that this
can not be the problem, because I play the same songs using iTunes and never,
ever have this glitch! It is a Media Player issue, but how on earth will be
find someone to look into this is the question. Let me know if you have
gotten anywhere!

If your sound card is crackling or having audio glitching (especially
towards the end of tracks!), right-click on the Speaker icon in the system
tray, select Playback Devices, right-click Speakers in that new dialog, go
to Properties, then go to Enhancements - choose "Disable All Enhancements"
and you should be fixed up. If this does fix you up, check with your sound
card vendor - they should not be having this problem. I believe
Dell/Sigmatel do have a driver update - you should check with them.

iTunes and WMP use the sound card differently.

Either get the driver update from Dell or Sigmatel or turn off Enhancements
on the audio card and you should be fixed up.

Thanks for the response. I turned off enhancements and that seemed to fix
the problem. I was already using the JAN '07 version of the Sigma Tel Audio
driver for Window's Vista from Dell. I still believe this is a glitch
between Vista and Media Player 11. There is no reason why I should have to
alter or accept diminished capacity in order to keep things working error
free. It's like saying that you can run Vista, but you have to turn off all
the functionality of what makes Vista, "Vista"? Thanks again, but hopefully
the problem will be addressed eventually be addressed at the developer level.

It's a problem in their audio processsing object. Talk to them about this.

Re: Problems with MP3 playback in Windows Media Centre
Just want it to work properly ... 5/9/2007 2:04:02 PM
DELL/SigmaTel, same CODEC, January driver, all enhancements ARE turned off.

Same problem, but files ripped by WMP direct from the CD's that play fine
everywhere else.

You should follow up with Dell or SigmaTel about this. This ball is
squarely in their court. Probably the only other solution anyone here would
have would be to get a different audio card that doesn't do this. =\

Before everything was fine and then suddenly it started to crackle everywhere in game in music and I'm getting really frustrated because of it. I would like to know what to do. It looks like it isn't sound card fault as I have completly different sound card but poroblem is still same. So this has to be Vistas fault. O yea, it's desktop computer, Pentium D 3.0Ghz running Vista Ultimate. If you need anymore specs, please tell, cause this is really frustrating and it is driving me nuts. I didn't have any problems with it in XP but here I can't even listen to music let alone play games or watch movies.

Please help. Thanks very much for any help that I might recive from you all.

P.S.: I tried all kind of combination of drivers new, old and still nothing

Thanks again

I'm not aware of anyone else who has hit this issue (?) - this sounds like
something wrong with your system that isn't related to the "MP3 playback in
Windows Media Centre" that was being discussed here.

If it's crackling everywhere/everytime, that sounds like perhaps you should
ask the computer shop you got this system from for help....
