Hi
I'm not sure what happened yesterday when I was working on some pictures but the Pictures link in the Start menu is no longer working. Clicking it produces no result and right-clicking and selecting Properties shows no information at all, no file type, 0 for size, etc.
I also checked the Customize Start Menu in the Control Panel and Pictures is no longer listed.
My Pictures icon, however, has not actually disappeared in the Windows Explorer view, the icon is still displayed under Rebekka in the panel on the left hand side and I can show its content by clicking as usual.
I then ran a search for "Pictures" and the icon and it's shortcut are listed pointing to [my name] (C:\Users\) and Links (C:\Users\[my name]) as they should - I double-checked by doing the same search for Music and compared the results.
Incidentally, the unavailability of the Pictures icon in the start menu also means I can't change the picture for my user account (unless I select one of the pictures already displayed). In Choose a new picture for your account, nothing happens when I click Browse for more pictures.
Can anyone tell me what has gone wrong and how I can get this Start menu item back to normal.

Right click the task bar and select properties, then select Start menu/customize. Scroll down to pictures and make sure Dispkay as link is checked. -- Paul

I was hoping to avoid a system restore as I wasn't happy with the available restore points. And now, it's been a couple of days as well but if there are no other solutions I guess that's what I'll have to do.

The Pictures folder may be pointing to a non-existent path. Try the fix here, Rebekka.
Nothing happens when you click on a shell folder link in the Windows Vista Start menu: http://www.winhelponline.com/articles/180/1/
