Try installing GOM player, then attempt to play any Mpg4 file, it will say it needs a codec, but unlike the lame and next to useless Media Player it will take you to a site that has a codec, install it and then surprise, surprise, then Media Player will also be able to play MPG4, but in true Microsoft arrogance will nag it don't understand the format, then once you click play anyway will play it.
