In Vista -Windows Mail has downloaded all my Yahoo Mail? Warren C. 7/11/2007 5:52:03 PM Got a new laptop with Vista .....and Vista wouldn't let me set up YahooMail as my mail client (??) like I had it set on my old Win2K laptop, so I set up a Windows Mail account to be able to send email from web pages. .....but now Windows Mail has downloaded 10 years of messages from Yahoo and now they are no longer available on the Yahoo Web Mail server. I really am pissed this has happened. I MUCH PREFER my mail archive available and always stored on the Web....available from anywhere. Now I'm stuck with my 10 years of my mail archive married to Windows Mail and accessable and searchable ONLY on this particular computer .......MAJOR BUMMER! Now how do I stop Windows mail from removing my mail from Yahoo? Is there any way I can upload my mail archive back to Yahoo? Warren C.

At the bottom you will see a section marked 'Delivery' Place a tick in the box next to the option 'Leave a copy of messages on server' 7/ You can also stipulate whether you want the mail to be deleted after so many days or deleted when you delete mail from the deleted items box. Just tick the relevant box. Do you know any Web mail accounts that let you import an archive...(which I guess would have to be in Microsoft Exchange format) ?.....like to get those messages back on the Web somehow. Do you know what's up with Vista...in that it won't let you configure Internet Explorer to use Yahoo Mail (or any other web mail clients)...like I used to do on my old laptop running Win2K. That's how I got into this mess....I wanted to be able to email from within IE ..which I've always done before with Yahoo Mail...couldn't figure out how without using Windows Mail. There really is no such thing as a webmail client program. Webmail is handled by going to a specific URL in your web browser. You are talking about clicking on a mailto link on a web page. As far as I know, a mailto link can only be handled by a real mail program; there is no mechanism for it to call up a webmail URL. I would imagine that it would be better if the option was enabled by default, at least then, if people didn't want to leave messages on their web mail server they could, at least, disable it. Pity you had to learn the hard way! Unfortunately I don't know of a web mail account that will allow you to import the emails. I have a Gmail account and I can't find anything on their that allow for emails to be imported. Again, as I said in my last post, you may have to do it the hard way, i.e., send them back to yourself. Windows Mail doesn't even support Hotmail now or, as far as I know, any other HTML email clients. Personally I use Outlook 2007 for downloading 'certain' mail, everything else is accessed via web mail accounts. The only thing I use Windows Mail for is downloading newsgroups and, unlike outlook express, WM is a pain at doing that!
