I cannot tell you why your attempt to download/install Office 2007 failed, but if there is an option to download first, then install from your local hard drive, you might try that.
As far as Antivirus software goes, I'll suggest two that are free, Avast and AVG:

Be sure to visit the Symantec web site to get the removal tool for Norton before installing a different anti virus package.
