Memory Diagnostic Fails - Computer shut's down
Rus787 6/23/2007 11:38:00 PM
I try to run the Memory Diagnostic for Home Premium and the computer shuts
down at about 30% on the first pass. Is there anything else other than RAM
problems that could cause this situation?

Sure, lots of things. Heat, bad power supply, bad motherboard, bad
processor...

Heat can cause it, but you're not running the CPU at 100%, just running
memory diagnostics. It could be a bad motherboard (northbridge, check to see
if it has a fan or if it's really hot to the touch), power supply...

Actually, you are - they aren't padded by a power-saving "do nothing"
idle state. You may not be using all of the CPU, but you certainly
are using the CPU 100% of the time.

You won't be fully loading the PSU either, or stretching the graphixcs
chipset, so problems may still arise from these when you start using
HDs (PSU) and 3D or "advanced" graphics (SVGA and PSU).
