What do you mean by can't get it running? I had a system with 6GB that would run really slowly once it hit 4GB (64-bit Vista) but if it was reduced to below 4GB it would be blazing fast. Turned out it was a problem with the Intel 965 chipset and just required me to roll back the BIOS. Make sure that your board supports 4GB first (I'm guessing it should anyways, but might as well doublecheck), then call the manufacturer and ask them if it's a documented problem. Intel knew straight away with my board (Intel DQ965GF) that it was a problem and in two seconds told me what to do.
Cheers!
