After running the Vista Upgrade advisor and following it's suggestions. I
upgraded the hardware on my notebook, any software it said needing upgrading
and removed any software the advisor said may cause problems. Then I find
out that my note book is not completely ACPI complient during the Vista
Business install and the install quits.
Since this install was really going to be for evaluation purposes I chose to
upgrade the WXP Pro SP2 system already on the system.
I ended up with a system that required my attention to choose an older
version of windows on startup. If I wasn't quick enough the sytem gave me a
blue screen telling me that it was not ACPI complient and I needed to restart.
I've managed to get around the choose a system prompt, and the system now
boots into WXP as expected. However, I was evaluating another
backup/restore product that boots into WXP from a recovery CD and before the
product can actually start it's backup WXP system I again get the blue screen
with the ACPI warning.
I don't have another product to try but it appears that when you boot up you
are going to get this ACPI warning.
Is there anyway to clean this mess up? I'm not giving up on Vista but I am
disappointed in the outcome of this evaluation.
