Sideshow remote controls for Windows Media Center Ian 4/27/2007 8:48:01 AM I have read about a number of different manufacturers (inc Philips) that are planning on making these available but i have not been able to source one yet. Does anyone know ehere I can get hold of one? (Am happy to provide feedback on any pre-production models)

However, I don't want to have to turn on my plasma TV each time I want to access music on my hard drive or an internet radio? Is this possible that I will be able to get access to those medias through a sideshow enable remote control? How would such a remote would work? WIFI or bluetooth? How will this fit with WMP? It also means one will be able to navigate around and set up the recording of a show or add music to the queue without disrupting what is going on on the display at the time - even if it is on. Our understanding is that the USB interface on the current implementations is for uploading updated firmware into the device only. As others have said, though, the media center PC itself must be on for the remote to interact with it. Keep in mind that these remotes are really just that--remote controls--and don't allow you to play back media directly on the remote :) The coming generation of devices based on the .NET Micro Framework primarily will support Bluetooth as a connectivity option. Devices based on other operating systems (Windows CE, etc) could support WiFi as well. We are also working with other partners to evaluate the feasibility of alternate RF transports such as Cypress' Wireless technology, Zigbee, and Z-wave. But from my perspective, you're likely to see Bluetooth-based devices first. Dan "Derek R. The main point for me is about scheduling tv recordings and playing back music (as Dan said) without having to turn the TV on. I'd been looking at the media center cases that feature little touch screens, but reviews suggest they cause issues when running in clone mode etc. Too things I just thought about... would one sideshow remote be able to communicate to a media center pc AND one or more media center extenders? Would be great to be able to control all your media center (extenders) around your home with just one remote control. Another thought, I'm toying with getting the latest ultra slim Logitech DiNevo wireless keyboard, which has a touchpad built in (so bye bye mouse), imagine that hooked up to your media center, but also featuring a sideshow lcd so you schedule tv etc. again without turning your media center screen on.
