Thanks for your reply and I'll try and fill in the gaps, I was using WSUS 2
with service pack 1 installed on a Windows 2003 server. The error log when
trying to uninstall was this:

I searched and searched for a way to manually uninstall WSUS 2 so I could
start from scratch but found nothing useful.
