After upgrading to 3.0 I was able to see the client machines but they were not reporting. I ran a client diagnosis and everything passes, so I moved onto the Windowsupdate.log. Below you will find what it reported back, it is able to check if a selfupdate is required but it runs into problems with getting the cookie. 2007-06-01 07:12:20:334 1116 16f4 AU Triggering AU 0x80244008 - SUS E PT SOAPCLIENT PARSEFAULT
The question then becomes: What is causing the ParseFault error, and how to fix it.
I'd start by suspecting the WUA. Download the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe installer, and reinstall the WUA using the /wuforce switch.
If that doesn't work, we may have to trash the datastore, but I hate doing that unless there's no other options available.

Ok I force the WindowsUpdateAgent30-x86.exe /wuforce and reinstalled the WUA. Well, that kinda leaves us with the radical "kill the datastore" solution.
Follow this procedure: [a] STOP the Automatic Updates service (NET STOP WUAUSERV) [b] RENAME the %windir%\SoftwareDistribution folder to SoftwareDistribution.BROKEN [c] REBOOT the system. [d] After reboot, run 'wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow' to force the purging of the targeting cookie, and observe the results.

Everything you need for WSUS is at http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/technologies/featured/wsus/default.mspx
And, almost everything else is at http://wsusinfo.onsitechsolutions.com .....

Well..... hmmm. I'm doing some additional checking on this error code.
(Since rebuilding the ~\SoftwareDistribution folder did not repair this issue, you should restore the original.)
[a] Stop the AU service. [b] Delete the newly created ~\SoftwareDistribution folder [c] Rename SoftwareDistribution.BROKEN to SoftwareDistribution [d] Reboot the machine.

Everything you need for WSUS is at http://technet2.microsoft.com/windowsserver/en/technologies/featured/wsus/default.mspx
And, almost everything else is at http://wsusinfo.onsitechsolutions.com .....
