One quick and somewhat useful place to start is to generate a detailed report in the WSUS UI of all machines that failed for the particular update, then look at the events reported to the WSUS server. That may save you a trip to the machine.
In the WSUS UI: At the Update Services node, click the failed line in the pie chart for the server you're interested. You'll see all failed updates on that server. Double click the failed update in the list view. You'll get the report. Scroll through the machines, and click the underlined "Failed" next to a computer in the report, and you'll probably see more information.
