Prior to the events being purged from the database, you can view events for a specific update and computer in the detailed reports. Where it shows the install status, click the status to view all available events.
You'll need to do this on the specific server to which the computer reports - the information is not rolled-up to a USS.
Other than that, you'd need to look at client logs.
