KB927978 is the "MS06-017 Security Update for Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0"
So, my first reaction is skepticism that Vista even has MSXML4 installed, given that the latest version is MSXML6 and it's been out for a year and a half.
You should confirm that MSXML 4.0 is installed on your Vista machine. My Vista Ultimate install has only MSXML3 and MSXML6 installed. No MSXML4.
However, you should review the KB article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927978 and attempt to install the update interactively, as you may be experiencing one of the known issues.
