Viewing failed update details
AMc 6/20/2007 9:18:12 PM
On WSUS 2.0 one of the great features was being able to view a failed update
on a computer by clicking the computer, and then clicking any update that
showed failed. I can't seem to find how to do this on WSUS 3.0. So my
question is how do I view which update failed on a computer, and get an error
code on why it failed through the WSUS 3.0 Admin Console? Thanks!

On any report or status screen, there is a filter option that allows you to
choose any or all of the four status values:
Installed/Not Applicable
Needed
Failed
No Status

Click on the All Computers computer view.
Right click the computer of interest and select Status Report.
In the header of the report click on the hyperlinked value at "Include
updates that have a status of"
In the dialog box check =Failed=; uncheck anything you don't want. Click on
OK.
Click on "Run Report" in the menu bar.
Observe the overview status on the first page.
Advance to the second page to get the detailed list of failed update
installations.
Click on the hyperlink "Failed" to get any available status information
about the reason for the failure.

If it's not available at the server, you'll need to review the actual
installation event in the WindowsUpdate.log at the client system.
