Replica mode - Update Contents
eugenevr <evrng[ at ]yahoo.com> 5/31/2007 7:02:24 AM
Hi

I've had a "test" WSUS server on the LAN, with all updates already
downloaded, approved, computer groups intact etc. Now wanted to
install a clean WSUS on a production server.

What I did was to set up the "new" server in replica mode, and it
worked fine, it downloaded all the content from the test server fine.

Question: If I now change the replica mode so that updates are
downloaded from MU, *at that stage, will the content that is
downloaded be sufficient, and it will only download "new" updates from
there on?*

I've tried this and it seems to be downloading the stuff all over
again.

Would appreciate if anyone has done the same and can share, or if you
think I have made a mistake in my logic here?

Thanks in advance

Eugene

Yes.

You'll want to confirm that the configuration of your new replica server was
*identical* to the test server you originally sychronized from.

If there is additional products, classifications, languages, or express
installation files enabled on the "replica" server that are not configured
on the upstream server, they will be addressed when you un-replica the
server.

This also presumes that the replica server did, in fact, download *all* of
the available content from the (upstream) test server.

Can you provide some specific examples of updates that were downloaded from
the (upstream) test server, and are now being downloaded from microsoft.com
again?
