Hi all-
Okay, here's the background. We were running WSUS 2.0 for quite a while. About a month ago I installed WSUS 3.0. This is on a SBS 2003 machine BTW. During the install all went smoothly. It uninstalled 2.0, installed 3.0, and everything came up and kept right on going.
I used the Admin console on the server, and on my local workstation many times over the month, no problems. However, starting last Friday, I could no longer get in, from either the server's MMC console, or the MMC on my workstation. In both places I get the following error: "Cannot connect to 'SERVERNAME'. You do not have the permissions required to access this WSUS server." There have been NO changes in software or config to the server since WSUS was installed (besides and automatic updates).
First thing I tried was the service restart, then resetiis, then a server reboot. After that I assumed it wasn't something "stuck." So, I figured I would cut to the chase and uninstalled WSUS leaving the updates and database (SQL 2005) intact. Uninstall finished, rebooted again. Ran the installer, port 8530, local SQL, found the existing DB, etc etc. When the installer completed, it tried to start the admin wizard. It couldn't launch due to an error (which I did not write down). I clicked OK, and then tried the console again. Same error: "Cannot connect to 'SERVERNAME'. You do not have the permissions required to access this WSUS server." Did the process one more time, but after the uninstall, I made sure the \Program Files\Update Services folder was completely gone. Same problem. I am logged into the server as a domain admin, and I even made sure the Administratrator account was directly set as a member of the WSUS Administrators group.
The sytem is still working in the background. Security updates are still being auto-approved, and still being sent to clients, all the clients are still updating like normal.
I don't have a clue where to go from here. I've searched this group, and even googled, and haven't found my problem elsewhere.
Thanks for any help!
