That may be an indication that the registry hives saved in the ~\repair folder were dated prior to the installation of WSUS.
Hopefully, that's not your only problem that arises from this "repair".
The "reinstall" failed because the WMSDE is already installed on the server, and cannot be installed (again) on top of itself. You'll need to uninstall the WMSDE.
Alternatively, you might check to see if you have a *newer* backup of the registry. I'd suggest restoring your most recent System State backup.

Hi Lawrence,
Thanks a lot for ur prompt response. That is correct that registry hives saved in the ~\repair folder were dated prior to the installation of WSUS. Now I have not backup of recent systemstate. I didnot find WMSDE at add remove program so how could i uninstall WMSDE.
Please help me to resolve this issue.

I've attached a GIF of a screen cap of an installation I just did of WSUS2/WMSDE on SBS2003SP1.
WMSDE will be found in Add/Remove Programs identified as:
Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (instancename)
and the instance name in this case is "WSUS".
So, remove the product "Microsoft SQL Server Desktop Engine (WSUS)".

If there is no entry for "SQL Server Desktop Engine (WSUS)" then WMSDE is not installed, or the uninstallation attempt failed.
Check and see if there is a fully populated \Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server folder. If not, I'd say the product is not installed.
Unless, again, the uninstallation was severely corrupted, and there are remanants of the product still in the registry.
This link (http://www.wsuswiki.com/wsusonsbs#3) describes how to manually install WMSDE (on an SBS2003 server, but the destination server doesn't matter). Use the procedure to attempt a manual installation of WMSDE on the 'WSUS' instance name. If it succeeds, then check Add/Remove Programs again, and uninstall the product.

Yes, it will. After successfully /installing/ WMSDE using the manual methods outlined in the cited document, you must /uninstall/ WMSDE.
WSUS cannot install if the WMSDE is already present. The purpose of the install/uninstall procedure was to clear out any remnants of a previously unsuccessful uninstallation.

Hi Lawrence
Thanks a lot for this information that There is no web-based "wsusadmin" website in WSUS 3.0. But it is wonder that I am able to browse “wsusadmin†through website in WSUS 3.0 from server. As well I am also able to browse “wsusadmin†from client mechine for 5 min, if I restart IIS server.
Previously I mention that I had problem with windows server 2003 and I replace SAM, Security and software files from c:\windows\repair to c:\windows\system32. Due to this I am not able to uninstall WSUS2.0. But with your help I am able to uninstall WMSDE. Then I tried to install WSUS 3.0. It installed successfully as well as synchronization completed successfully.
Now I am checking whether the client machine retrieving updated from that WSUS 3.0 server or not by using nwsusutil utility
The command I using is “nwsusutil.exe 192.168.1.1:8530†Please help Lawrence, is this command works or not?
Thanks a lot Regards, Rajeev

Well *that* certainly would explain why you still have a semi-functioning WSUSAdmin *website*.

Excellent!

I'm not familiar with the 'nwsusutil.exe' utility.
There is a 'wsusutil' utility, but it has no syntax that I know of that would involve an IPAddress:Port parameter, and not involve a subcommand parameter.
D:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools>wsusutil /? Windows Server Update Services administration utility. Try: wsusutil help checkhealth wsusutil help configuressl wsusutil help deletefrontendserver wsusutil help listinactiveapprovals wsusutil help removeinactiveapprovals wsusutil help export wsusutil help healthmonitoring wsusutil help import wsusutil help listfrontendservers wsusutil help movecontent wsusutil help reset wsusutil help usecustomwebsite
