Too many download
Christophe MELIN 5/31/2007 9:14:00 AM
First, sorry for my poor english

Two weeks ago, I updated my WSUS 2.0 Server to WSUS 3.0.
The WsusContent directory is about 30 Go. This server synchronizes with
Microsoft Windows Update and gets english and french updates.

Last week, I installed a second server with it own SQL Server Database.
This server synchronizes with my first server (but this is not a replica).
Initially, i configured it to download all updates in all languages from the
first server.
But it said that it had to download 150GB !!! So, I changed the config to
download only update in english and french and now it says that it has one
update (14MB) to download.

The problem is now on my first server. It says that it has one update to
download (130 GB). When I look at bitsadmin, all files currently downloading
are from "Windows XP Service Pack 2". If i look at file information for this
update, the total size is about 26 GB.

Where does the difference come from ? and how can i stop this crazy download
because the disk is going to be full before the end of the download !!!

[a] Stop the BITS service on your upstream server until you can perform step
b.
[b] Use the BITSADMIN utility to purge the download queue on the primary
server.

What happened is that when you configured the autonomous downstream server
for *all* languages, even though your upstream server is configured for only
English and French, it now needs to download *all* languages to service the
requests from the downstream server.
