WSUS 3.0 with Downstream servers
"Ed Wyche" <none[ at ]none.com> 5/26/2007 3:20:38 AM
I have a setup with a DC and some member server in other locations. I have
the downstream server setup as a replica. How do I get the clients that are
in the same location as the replica to update from that replica? The
2003-wsus-ds is my downstream server. Also I have client-side targeting on
and the client is not showing up on the upstream WSUS server. Thanks

Set the update service intranet URL to the URL of the desired replica.

Then, configure http://2003-wsus-ds or http://2003-wsus-ds:8530 as is
appropriate.

Just like it appears to have been done for this client.

But is it showing up on the assigned *replica* server? If not, it'll never
get to the upstream server.

The client is configured correctly to use the server. What's logged in the
WindowsUpdate.log during a detection/reporting event?

If it is connected to a replica how does it report back to the upstream
server for the groups?

The parent server informs the replica server of what the available target
groups are during replica synchronization.

The client informs the replica server of its status during the client
detection/reporting event.

The replica uploads the client reporting data during the next
synchronization.

When I run WSUS Client Diagnostic Tool it shows "This version is WSUS 2.0"
I am running version 3.0. Also I deleted a client out of WSUS how do I get
it to show back in there?

Yep it is a WSUS 2 diagnostic. If it can't find a WSUS server is assumes it is
SUS. It seems that if it can find a WSUS server is assumes it must be v2

Actually.. it displays this message based on the version of the =WUA=, not
the version of the server found.

If the WUA is v5.4 or earlier, it reports "SUS 1.0".
If the WUA is v5.7 (pre-release) or later, it reports "WSUS 2.0"

However, the logic is still valid. It occurs because it's a "WSUS 2
diagnostic" and was incapable of being aware of a "WSUS 3.0" product at the
time it was written. I'm presuming an updated CDT is on the way.
