WSUS some clients not reporting

We are successfully updating 300+ client pcs and servers, but we have 29
devices with xp, w2k, and server 2k3 that will not get updates. They
display in the WSUS console as "Not yet reported". A lengthy snippet from
WindowsUpdate.log on one of the xp machines follows. I have pondered all
the related threads, but it seems my issue may be different. Thanks for

I'm not sure what you have tried so far, but try stopping the wuauserv
service, then delete the softwaredistrabution folder (in the windows
directory), restart the service and force a detection (wuauclt /detectnow).

If that doesn't work, then force a reinstall of the client softare (mostly
because it will reregister the dlls) by downloading:
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=43264
and running the install with /wuforce

be successfully detecting any updates, even if everything else was working.

[b] The 0x8024400A error on a Windows Server 2003 system has historically
been caused by a conflict between IIS and HTTP.SYS.

The fix is in http://support.microsoft.com/?id=898708 or Windows Server 2003
Service Pack 2.

Hello and thanks for your post. I am downloading SP2 now. I have not seen
any information about "target group". What is it and how is it configured?

Thanks for the info. I am going to install SP2, which should include this

I believe we've isolated the primary problem. :-)

Please refer to the WSUS Deployment Guide for further details on how to
properly deploy and configure a WSUS server.

I installed SP2 on the WSUS and a couple of the problem machines resolved on
their own. Those were the ones I had reintalled the client on. I am
working through the client reinstall on the others to see if that fixes the
rest of them.
