AU policy settings with WSUS
MacLeod 6/18/2007 1:03:00 PM
I have WSUS 3.0 installed with a test bed of 7 machines. Out of the 7, 2 are
reporting 100% complete and all others from 66% up. The client diag tool run
from the WSUS server (Win2003 server on Virtual Server 05) shows AU does not
have policy set and "UseWuServer is disabled" as FAIL.

Running the client diag from a client machines that reports 91% complete, I
receive all PASS except this dandy statement

VerifyWUServerURL<> failed with hr:0x801901F6

The only thing on the internet I could find from that message deals with
machines that have not reported. My clients have, but they don't seem to
update. Aside from the two 100% machines, the others have been at their
stage of completion for four days without improvement.

Any suggestions?

This is because you've not applied a WSUS GPO to the OU containing your
WSUS Server.

Actually, what you should have found is that 0x801901F6 is an HTTP '502'
error.

0x801901F6
BG E HTTP ERROR 502
The server, while acting as a gateway or proxy to fulfill the request,
received an invalid response from the upstream server it accessed.

The next step would be to inspect the following:
[a] Your actual policy configuration settings
[b] The actual registry settings on the client(s)
[ at ] HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
[c] The proxy client configuration settings (which would be included in
the other 98% of the CDT output you didn't post).
[d] The WindowsUpdate.log.
