WSUS and Memory
CipherTeKST 6/19/2007 7:47:03 PM
I have a WSUS setup on a Windows Server 2000 machine. Every 2 to 3 weeks or
so the process that is running the MSSQL$WSUS service starts to use alot of
memory. I am trying to find out why and if there is anthing to do to prevent
this from happening. The machines has over 2GB of memory and this
process/service is taking up almost 3/4 of it.

Thanks!

Doesn't really matter that the machine has over 2GB of RAM, since MSDE2000
won't use it anyway.

What CPU is in this Win2000 server?

What kind of disk drives/controllers are in this Win2000 server?

How many clients do you have being serviced by this server?

My educated guess is that the database server is executing an internal
maintenance utility triggered by the rowcount size of the tbEventInstance
table, and it's just dragging the machine down.

Answers to your questions....
Intel Xeon CPU 2.4ghz
RAID 5
95 computers

Any help or suggestions will be appreciated.

Okay, next set of questions:

What is the configured detection interval for these client systems?

What *else* is running on this Xeon 2.4Ghz/2GB RAM system.
(And.. please.. forgive me for being curious about how hardware that new
and high-end is still running Windows 2000 as the OS?)

The configured detection level i'm not sure, i assume whatever the default is
at installation. Now for the OS.... lets just say... i wasn't the one to make
that decision and also not the one who makes the "in the budget" decisions
either... haha

Any help will be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance.

This really is a critical question at this point of the diagnostics.

Can you please export and post the registry subkeys and values from the key
at
HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\WindowsUpdate
from one of the /client/ systems.

You didn't answer this one.
