Security Update for CAPICOM - BAD detection logic

It appears that the May "Security Update for CAPICOM" is being detected as
needed on Windows XP sp1 machines. I'm confused because I thought MS
discontinued release of updates for Windows XP sp1 (?). I believe the
detection logic is at fault here. The download page at MS
(http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=CA930018-4A66-4DA6-A6C5-206DF13AF316&displaylang=en)
correctly lists the update as applying to Windows XP SP2, not SP1.

Arguably the detection logic should check that the update is supported on the
target machine. On the other hand, wouldn't this mean there were never any
applicable updates?

This behaviour means that you have a choice if you have machines with an
unsupported OS version; you can remove them from WSUS, or you can tolerate
having unsupported updates installed. So it might well be deliberate.

Harry.
