WSUS3 - The Status Summary reports that are emailed to me from WSUS time is wrong. It would seem that it is 5 hours ahead. I have checked the wsus server and it has the correct time, time zone, daylight savings. Any ideas?

The reports use UTC time, which may not be the same time zone of your local server time. Is that what makes you feel "ahead"?

Our organization is completely in ONE time zone. Central time GMT-6. At 7:30am this morning I received an email from WSUS with a summary report time stamped June 13 12:30pm. I can’t find any reason for the time difference. Any help would be great.

Are you familiar with UTC time? It's the same as GMT. The time is showing in the reports as UTC, which is 6 hours ahead of your GMT-6 timezone.
This is done because an admin may have servers in multiple time zones, and reports may be mailed to multiple admins in different timezones. UTC is a consistent zone so you can compare one time against another.
Unfortunately there is no configuration option to set which timezone to use in the reports when your situation is less complex.

According to www.time.gov, Central time is currently UTC minus 5.
So 12:30pm UTC is 7:30am central, and you're seeing exactly the expected behaviour.

I am the admin, and no all servers are in ONE time zone GMT-6. Were do I set the UTC time to match my time zone.

So is there a way to make it state the time of the email as apposed to the UTC time.

If you notice next to the Time it says GMT (Greenwich Mean Time). This is the time that is stored in the database, so my guess is you are on Eastern Standard time, which is -5 from GMT.
Since we do not know where (time zone wise) the e-mailed reports are going to we decided to only report the GMT time according to the specified time that the Admin wanted the reports sent per the Server local time. I hope that makes sense.

No, we are central standard time not eastern so that doesn't make sense either. Also the WSUS server, the exchange servers (both front end and back end), The ISA server, and the domain controller all are in the same time zone (central). If the report can not correctly place the time of the report can the time be removed from the report.

Are you sure you're in GMT-6 and not GMT-5? You can check the current GMT time here to compare with the local time:
<http://www.time.gov/timezone.cgi?UTC/s/0/java>
... of course, that's a side issue.
Lying to your servers about what the time is would be a bad idea. If you change only some machines, Kerberos and any other communications protocol that uses timestamps will fail. If you change all your machines, you'll have trouble communicating with the outside world - at the very least, timestamps on things like email, files on removable media and so on would all go wrong.

Central Time is GMT-5 when DST is in effect. Otherwise it's GMT-6.
States in CT that do not observe daylight saving time would remain at GMT-6.
Except for a very miniscule portion of Indiana, there aren't any states in CT that do not observe DST.

You need to look at 'The Big Picture'. YOU are only in a single time zone. Large orgs, with server around the world deal with multiple TZ. Yhere is no way for WSUS to know in which TZ the recipient of the e-mails are, and for comparison purpose, it is easier to deal with UTC. Heck, even in a single TZ, there are execptions. The CT zone does not apply DST everywhere, so using UTC avoids the confusion as to why updates are off by an hour.

Thanks, that makes sense to me. So that explains the 5 or 6 hour difference.

Well it's one way but not the only *correct* way. Another option would be to give the Admin of the server the abillity to choose. UTC or his current time. Or to have it removed completely. Or at least put UTC after the (possible) incorrect time instead of (GMT).
I see several ways in which there could be good solutions for global companies as well as small companies.
Microsoft usually offers 20 different ways to do the same thing so thought there might be a way to change this also.
Thanks for the help.

Granted there is a distinction between GMT and UTC, it's pretty much just a technicality. GMT is widely used to mean UTC.
