question on selecting groups to update
"Adam Raff" <araff[ at ]newsgroup.nospam> 6/13/2007 7:23:20 PM
Good Day,

WSUS 2.0 SP1 with latest updates.

I have been using WSUS for some time and all is working fine. So I have
decided to update all my users to the new version of IE7 from IE6. I want
to take this slow so that I know what to expect and I know that there is a
way to install by group/department. I have already broke down my company by
department and I have set aside one computer that I can play with and
update. Can anybody point me in the right direction so that I have a little
more info on this and the proper way of doing it. I have been updating all
of my PC at once with updates.

It looks like when I click on change approval I get the box approve update
page, normally I just click approval install and they install to all my
groups. I can see that I can go down the Group approval settings and select
a group and pick on that group and change the group in my case the group is
called Test to install. I am assuming that only that group will get the
update and nobody else. Is this correct?

Is it better to manage these large updates and do them by group so that I do
not kill myself is something happens. What is the best method in this case?

I also assume that once I install one group I can go back and slowly change
each one to install within a few days of each other so that I can manage any
issues if any.

Thank You
Adam Raff
