I am using WSUS 3.0 to push updates and i have come into a problem that I could use some help with.
Some of the computers on the network are restricted from accessing the Internet so when I deploy updates that need to use windows genuine advantage to validate the are not able to get out.
Is there some way to get around this?
Thank you for your help

To my knowledge, there is *nothing* deployable via WSUS that requires WGA to be installed or operational.
However, installation of several updates via WU/MU requires WGA to be installed, and operational.
The issue may also be triggered, possibly, if you are installing those updates *interactively* rather than as an unattended scheduled event.

Ahhh.. yes.... I'd forgotten.. my apologies.
Windows Media Player 11 seems to be the great exception to this promise --- that WSUS Admins would never need to deal with WGA.
But again.... the primary 'workaround' to this is to install WMP11 in unattended /scheduled/ mode, which should alleviate the issues being encountered in an interactive installation.
I did successfully install WMP11 in an unattended 3am event on an XP SP2 system just last week (along with IE7, and a host of other updates). (What I cannot confirm, though, is the possibility that the system may have already had WGA implemented and active -- that might be why I had no issues.)

This doesn't help, because the WGA comes up when WMP11 is launched, not when it is installed. It also comes up once for each user. (In my environment, each user has to run WGA, but succeeds despite having no admin access or direct internet connection; however this may be due to our having a volume licensed version of the OS.)

Well.. shucks. :-/

That sux.
I guess MS isn't really interested in widespread adoption of WMP11 in the organizational environment, then, are they?

*That* is most interesting!
You may be right about the VL OS.
But, if so, the stupid application ought to be smart enough to determine that fact, *before* executing the WGA dialog, and only executing the WGA dialog *conditionally*, if the OS is not a VL key. (And.. YES, they can determine that... it comes from the ProductID stored in the registry in Plain Text!.)

I guess not. Fortunately for me I can take a relaxed attitude to it since we don't make use of WMP - or any other media player for that matter, unless you count QuickTime. (Oh, there are a few staff and grad desktops that use one or another but no widespread deployment.)
Perhaps someone can suggest a decent third-party alternative to WMP for those who need it in an organizational setting? Sadly everything I've seen so far seems unsatisfactory in one respect or another, though obviously I haven't looked all that hard.
Harry.
