Whenever I type in a password for the proxy account for synconising updates, the console crashes and the password is not saved. I've just upgraded my WSUS 2.0 to v3.0 and the whole event seemed to go smooth. I could logon to the console, but whether through the wizzard or options, although I could modify every other field and save the settings, the console crashes whenever I type in a password for the proxy account. I've applied all the windows updates on this server and I'm running the default database install. The database and WSUSContent seem intact. I've tried the usual reboots and iisreset and retrype the account details. I've deleted the cached MMC as well. I'm running WS2K3 SP1 STD and no AV at present to simplify troubleshooting. Any suggestions please, I've attached the error details. Thanks
The WSUS administration console has encountered an unexpected error. This may be a transient error; try restarting the administration console. If this error persists,
Try removing the persisted preferences for the console by deleting the wsus file under %appdata%\Microsoft\MMC\.

Mine's working fine with no password. What if you enter the proxy info with no credentials - will it sync? I have proxy server checked, with the SBS name and port 8080. The "Use user credentials..." box is un-checked, and it's synching as expected.
That doesn't explain why the console crashes, but if it works without user credentials, I'd ignore it until/unless you run into another console-related problem.

Sorry - thought I was in the SBS group, so that's probably a completely useless answer for you.

Appreciate the feedback. In response, we use ISA for a Proxy server and it's configured such that it needs appropriate credentials to authenticate internet access. Without these it attemps to connect but fails as it's not authenticated with the proxy server, which is what I was expecting.

FWIW, ISA in SBS comes pre-configured with a rule to allow all users access to MU. It's basically allowing HTTP and HTTPS from all protected networks to a couple of defined groups that include *.microsoft.com, *.windows.com, and *.windowsupdate.com.
Any help here? http://www.wsus.info/forums/lofiversion/index.php?t4839.html
