A very interesting phenomenon I observed on a German-only WSUS server (but perhaps flavored by its installation on an English SBS2003).
Synchronizing Win2003 product and Updates classification, I once again got *both* packages for .NET Framework v2.0 (KB829019), but the English package has a warning banner on the update that reads: "This update cannot be installed because it, or an update it contains, is in a language that is not supported by the server. Check your language settings on the Options page."
Now, it's interesting that the warning is present, but I would have expected that the metadata didn't even appear.
But, this might also have happened because its an English language OS synchronizing German only content. Yet, the banner appears *before* I've approved the update, *before* any particular system has attempted to install it, and golly gee whiz, since the SBS2003 WSUS server I'm testing this on *IS* an English system, the update would be installable to that system!
I fear, the only real way to properly test this is to install a German language edition of Win2003, install WSUS on that server, and sync German updates. (Unfortunately, my German language skills are so rusty -- I studied German for two years in college, and two years before that in high school -- I probably couldn't successfully complete the test scenario.)
Still, at that point, you'd either get one or both packages, and the English language update, apparently, *cannot* be approved on a system syncing only German updates.
However, WSUS will not let me approve the update!!!
In light of this information, I'm going to drop back, and rethink the original post, and see if I have any new ideas.
