W2K server SP 4 (client)
W2K3 R2 SP2 (wsus 2.0)

I have found a lot of suggestions via Google, but nothing has helped me.
I have tried:

1. deleting WindowsUpdate.log
2. restarting WU service
3. wuauclt /resetauthorization /detecnow
4. remove station from WSUS
5. deleting some keys in regedit

Nothing, nothing,,,,,

I guess this isssue is after XMLxxx update

I'm fairly new to this stuff, but I can relate to the problem you describe.
When you run the client diagnostic tool check for the version of WSUS under
your machine state information. You need it to say 2.0. Either way make
sure your windows update client is updated. I banged my head against the
wall may times before I noticed this minor detail. Also try refreshing the
group policy on the local machine. You excute the command gpupdate /force at
the system32 windnows directory. After that do the wuauclt.exe /detectnow at
the inf windows directory.

Hope this helps

Try stopping the Update service, delete the contents of the
SoftwareDistribution folder and reboot.

The 0x8024400A error has historically been associated with a known conflict
between IIS6 and HTTP.SYS. The resolution is the installation of the
applicable hotfix onto a Windows Server 2003 SP1 system.

The hotfix is documented at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=898708

Then I would conclude that your 0x8024400A error has absolutely nothing to
do with the known HTTP.SYS/IIS conflict, and may involve an entirely new
scenario, heretofore never seen.

You could... but I doubt it'll help with what is essentially a server-side
error.

Won't cause any harm, though. Be sure to use the /wuforce switch, or the
installer will simply report that it's already installed, and terminate
itself.
