WSUS Server Configuration Wizard error
ITAlgonquin 5/16/2007 4:38:01 PM
Hi,
I am installing WSUS 3.0 on a Windows 2k3 SP2 server. The install goes
fine until the configurations wizard is supposed to automatically start and
this is the error i get.

"An Error occured when communicating with the server and this wizard must be
closed. You may restart the WSUS Server Configuration Wizard from the options
page in the WSUS 3.0 console".

I have all of the required other program or services installed. I have also
looked for this configuration wizard in the WSUS console, i'm not able to
find it any where. I have tried the "Connect to server", but it doesn't see
the wsus server; i'm guessing that is because i haven't done the
configuration wizard to set up the server.

Any help is appreciated!

Adam

This is usually due to the need to Reset IIS. If, from a command prompt,
you type IISREST, you should then be able to open the WSUS consol

I actually solved the problem. The issue was that i had another program using
port 80 which WSUS was trying to initialize as its own. I just had to go
back through the install and choose to use port 8530 and the wizard came up
as expected.
