WSUS3 - restart later not working
Nigel Jett <jettn[ at ]evergreen.edu> 5/7/2007 3:52:33 PM
In the WSUS3 beta the restart later button ignored the timer and would
pop back up within about a minute of being clicked. Now with WSUS3 final
it pops back up after about 10 minutes. That's a nice improvement, but
it's not what I have it set for.
Anyone else run into this and/or know how to fix it? I need the restart
later to work for at least an hour or else my users become angry.

Ten minutes is the "default". You might check to ensure your policy for "one
minute" is being properly applied to the client system.

After playing around with this I think I've figured it out. I had the
policy set for 600 minutes. I assume that this number was beyond some
hard coded limit and so it defaulted to 10 minutes. I've set it down to
60 minutes on a client and that one now seems to be behaving.

This is exactly what happened. The WUA automatically reverts to =default=
values if the values configured in the registry are invalid.

Which is why it's strongly recommended to use Local Policy to configure the
WUA. :-)

However, even so... the valid values for the "Reprompt.." setting are 1 -
1440 minutes (24 hours), so there must have been something else impacted in
your registry setting(s) as well.

I actually did use gpedit.msc, then exported the registry settings it
created, and then applied that .reg file to my other clients. I'll poke
it a bit more and see what I can turn up.
