The first fix is to turn off the Caps Lock key. Sometimes the MMC won't load snap-ins when the Caps Lock key is engaged.
If that doesn't work, make sure you've complied with the documented software prerequisites which include installing the Microsoft Management Console 3.0 available from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4C84F80B-908D-4B5D-8AA8-27B962566D9F
If you've turned off the Caps Lock key =AND= you've upgraded the MMC to the documented required version, then another possibility is a Citrix file in the \WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 directory named mmc.exe.config which, apparently, interferes with the operation of the MMC. Rename that file and try again.
If not that, it could be a corrupted WSUS.MSC file. Find the WSUS.MSC file, make a backup copy elsewhere and then delete it, which should cause the MMC to build a new MSC file.
