Unable to install ver 3 or uninstall ver 2sp1
"Corey Arndt" <coreya[ at ]smcltd.com> 5/16/2007 11:41:00 AM
I attempted to do an upgrade to ver 3. The installation failed so I decided
to try to uninstall version 2 and start clean. The uninstall is failing
looking for the correct wssetup.msi. I have tried uninstalling version 2,
2wsp1 and 3 with no luck. Parts of version 2sp1 appear to be working but
not very well.

Is there a way to manually unstall wsus 2 sp1?

Thanks

You may want to run WSUS 2.0 sp1 setup to uninstall WSUS 2.0 sp1.

I tried to rerun the WSUS 2.0 SP1 and non-SP1 setups.

After about 1 minute (after the removal of the client selfupdate files) I
get a pop-up message...'The feature you are trying to use is on a network
resource that is unavailable' and that I need to point the setup in the
right direction.

I am trying to uninstall locallly. The file it is looking for is
d:\4879a924addba336b7\sus\wussetup.msi. I get the same message from both
WSUS 2.0 uninstalls. I have tried pointing the uninstall to any file with
the same name an no luck.

Any thoughts?

Search your registry for the WSUS 2 installer ID keys; they begin 6CD64 (or
possibly 6DC64 - I cannot remember, but the values in the key mention Update
Services). Delete them. Install 3. Took me a while to figure it out.

This worked perfectly. This took a little bit of time but you saved me a
lot of work.

Thank You
