One of the items that's been a little confusing for me is that when you look at needed/failed report it is showing itmes that have yet to be approved as not installed and needed. With WSUS 2 you didn't see it as needed until the update was approved. Do I have a setting incorrect, or is this something that is "by design?" SO what you are seeing are all of the updates that the client is reporting that it needs, whether it is approved or not.
