Security updates for .NET framework failing with error 0x80070643 Coleman <cmccormick[ at ]gmail.com> 7/3/2007 12:56:17 PM I've got two updates, both "Security updates for .NET Framework 2.0" failing with error 80070643: KB917283 and KB922770. I couldn't find any direct reference to these in the WindowsUpdate.log file. I have only two machines on which these are failing (out of about 50), one with 2000 and one with XP SP2. Is this something related to MSI source installers or something like how Office 2003 needs the source files to update?

I have got the .NET 3.0 update (KB932471) failing with the exact same error code: 0x80070643. It's failing on one machine only. Some deeper analyzing of the logs from the cmd line installer showed that the patch does not see anything to update and quits with 'No valid products found' (Error 0x66A). I have reinstalled the ..NET 3.0 and I have reset the detection logic ... nothing seems to help. The patch always shows up as needed again. I am currently trying to ping MS for that. Historically, this same thing happened with the automated installation of the .NET Framework v1.1 Service Pack 1. In many cases, the issue was ultimately traced to a framework application running during the attempted installation. (I even experienced this trying to do an interactive installation of the Framework SP1.)
