Hi,
I've been getting the error when I try to download the updates using WSUS 3.0. The strange part is that I've been able to download some of the updates (actually a majority of the updates). But I can't seem to these last updates to be downloaded. I'm not getting a BITs error that I've been seeing in other threads. I'm not going through the internal proxy server, but we do have a firewall.
The error that I'm getting in the event log is:
Content file download failed. Reason: The client does not have sufficient access rights to the requested server object. Source File:
/msdownload/update/v3-19990518/cabpool/windowsxp-kb905495-x86-express-enu_299a9cd481cabcff3daf3314c767536e99f3beb3.cab Destination File: e:\WSUS\WsusContent\B3\299A9CD481CABCFF3DAF3314C767536E99F3BEB3.cab.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
I've been searching for days for an answer, but I can't seem to find anything.
Thanks for any help.

Do you have =quotas= enabled on the WSUS server?

Thanks for the reply.
No, =quotas= are not enabled on the server at all. The partition has 80+ GB of free space, so the drive is okay.

Quotas are the only reason I can think of why a server would successfully download "a majority of the updates" and then just quit downloading the rest.
Unless somebody has reconfigured your firewall/proxy server, or changed the NTFS permissions on the WSUS Server while the downloads were in progress.

Thanks for the reply.
I've double checked the proxy settings in WSUS, and it's set to by pass the proxy server. I'm having someone check on the firewall right now.
As far as the NTFS permissions, what should they be set as, I've seen various threads and atricles on that subject and I'm getting confused. As side from giving the =everyone= group read/write access I'm stuck.
Thanks again for the replys.

Thanks for the replies.
I'll go over the permissions and see if that fixes it.

Nope that wasn't it. The NTFS permissions are fine.
Anybody have any thoughts on this??

If your investigation of possible network issues has come up empty, and you want to doublecheck whether there is a problem with writing the file, you could try Process Monitor, which can be found here:
<http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/ProcessesAndThreads/processmonitor.mspx>
(Disclaimer: there may be a (very) small risk that this software will crash the system, so you may want to think carefully first if the same machine is providing any mission-critical services. I've never heard of any problems, however, and the developer has a very good reputation.)
Harry.
