IE7 Detect Only
KLH456 5/30/2007 2:01:02 PM
Just noticed that WSUS is not detecting all IE7 installations. I had Declined
the update when it first came out but now have set it to Detect Only when I
discovered at least one user had installed the product. I has found 3 other
installations but not the one that I know has it installed.

I investigated further with my SMS information and found that the file
version and sizes are significantly different. Also the name of the product
is reported differently in SMS. The 3 that are showing up in WSUS have the
product name as Windows Internet Explorer. The one that does not show is
Microsoft Internet Explorer. Any one else seen this strange behavior or have
an explanation?

Thanks.

Have you confirmed that all installed packages are =gold= code?

It's conceivable that one or more installed packages is pre-release code.

I'm not sure how to verify what is =gold= code. The version that WSUS sees
is: 7.00.5730.11 (winmain(wmbla).061017-1135) the version it does not see is:
7.00.5346.5 (winmain(wmbla).060413-2150). I examined the WindowsUpdate log to
see if I could determine when it was updated, but so far have not found it.

If it helps any, the release build of IE7 is 7.0.5730.11, so I'd venture an
educated guess that the 7.00.5346.5 is a pre-release build.

That seems to be the answer. The 3 that are reporting correctly are the 5730
build. Now, I need to go and take away ADMIN privileges from those 3 users!

Thanks much for the help.
