Hi,

Does anyone know of a way to schedule the installation of updates on a =
monthly basis? I'd like to get my servers using WSUS but to minimise any =
downtime I don't want to it to update every week and the only settings I =
can find on the GP/registry are every day/ Mon/Tue/Wed etc rather than say =
every 1st Sunday for instance.

many thanks for any advice or suggestions!

Tony

More specific scheduling would require disabling Scheduled installs and =
using the WUA API in a custom application to do the installation.

The usual recommended configuration for servers is to get them to download but
not install updates automatically. You can then log into each server (remotely
if that is preferable) and install the updates at the appropriate time. This is
the only way to control exactly when the server reboot takes place.

Harry.

Set up WSUS to download and inform (option 3). Set it for the default
(22 hours). Then, when you want to install the updates, do it manually.
I've never supported automatic reboots of servers except in
extraordinary circumstances....

Hank Arnold

How about accepting the updates once a month, just before you want to
install?

If you only *approve* the updates on a monthly basis, then they'll pretty
much only *install* on a monthly basis.

If you refine this even further, by specifing a specific day for
installation (rather than any day), you can pretty easily ensure updates
will only be installed on a specified day of the month.

Here's another option to consider:

How can I update my server when I have a fixed maintenance window?
